Sport & Performance Psychology
Perform with clarity. Compete with confidence. Protect your well-being. High performance and mental health are not competing priorities - they are built on the same foundation.
Jon Skelton
I’m a Performance Psychologist and SEPAR(iT) practitioner.
I support athletes, teams, and high-pressure performers to develop the mental skills needed to perform consistently under pressure, while safeguarding the well-being that makes long-term success possible.
Based near Chelmsford, Essex, I work with clients locally and online worldwide.
When Performance Matters Most
In sport and high-pressure environments, physical preparation is only part of the picture.
How you think, feel, and respond under pressure often determines how you perform when it counts.
If you’re:
- Struggling with confidence or self-belief
- Overthinking or tightening up under pressure
- Dealing with performance anxiety or perfectionism
- Finding your performances inconsistent despite strong preparation.
Sport psychology can help you develop the skills to perform with clarity rather than fear.
Together, we work to:
- Build confidence that lasts
- Improve focus and emotional control
- Manage pressure, expectations, and setbacks
- Perform freely and decisively
- Protect your mental health alongside your ambitions.
My Approach: Evidence-Based and Holistic
My work is grounded in evidence-led psychological practice and shaped around you as a whole person – not just an athlete.
As a Performance Psychologist and SEPAR(iT) practitioner, my approach is primarily CBT-based, exploring the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. We identify patterns that may be holding you back and replace them with practical, effective strategies you can use immediately.
To provide truly holistic support, I integrate a multimodal toolkit developed through over five years of diverse training:
Cognitive Behavioural Foundations
The gold standard for understanding and changing performance-limiting habits.
Physiological Tools
Including breathwork to regulate the nervous system and manage pressure in real time.
Solution-Focused Techniques
Drawing from performance coaching, NLP, and EFT to create clear, actionable change.
Holistic Well-being
Ensuring stress management and mental health are prioritised alongside performance goals.
Why This Works
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all psychology.
Whether I’m working with an individual athlete, a team, a school, or an organisation, everything is tailored to your environment, demands, and goals. CBT provides the structure and roadmap, while my wider toolkit ensures you develop practical skills you can apply in training, competition, and everyday life.
The aim isn’t just better performances – it’s sustainable performance with well-being at its core.
